Forensic Medicine trains the observational and ethical instincts every doctor needs — from interpreting a post-mortem finding to recognising when the law, not just the diagnosis, is what's at stake.

What students are expected to master in this department.
- Identify the basic medico-legal aspects of hospital and general practice.
- Describe the medico-legal aspects and findings of post-mortem examination in deaths due to common unnatural conditions and poisoning.
- Detect occupational and environmental poisoning, its prevention, epidemiology, and legal aspects under the Workmen's Compensation Act.
- Describe the general principles of analytical toxicology.
- Know general medico-legal protocols.
- Make observations and draw logical inferences.
- Diagnose and treat common emergencies in poisoning.
- Make observations and interpret findings in post-mortem examination.
- Observe the principles of medical ethics throughout medical practice.
- Provide an integrated approach toward allied disciplines such as pathology, radiology and forensic sciences.
